Abstract

A nurse who graduates from the student period is the one who is going to turn out to be a clinical nurse specialist, working in any setup to handle emergencies. But how far does the curriculum focuses on the very basic critical care to handle emergencies. It is well known fact that sudden cardiac arrest is the leading cause of death in the world and most of them die before reaching the hospital or in the emergency room. During such situations where time plays a crucial role in the recovery, even a second delay can further decline the chances of recovery. Hence is imperative to note, whether the student nurses are really competent to handle cardiac emergencies? The current scenario shows that nurses constitute the largest single group of health care professionals in any health care organization. The very nature of their work brings them closest to the population they serve. Due to their person to person interaction, Nurses are expected to be mainly responsible for the efficient and effective management of patient care services. More importantly, it must be ensured that they are adequately trained in terms of cardiac emergency drug management which is a crucial step in a patient's survival in cardiac emergencies. The present study emphasized on the existing knowledge and application skills on cardiac emergency drugs, which clearly showed that the students require further input into their knowledge and practice. Hence, errors in medications are made whether minor or major and even to the extent of losing a person's life. Therefore students' lack of complete knowledge and practice can have adverse impact on the quality of care and also threat to patient's life.

Abstract

The auto load refers to the automated power management system employing diesel generator sets. The generators will be turned ON depending on the load it has to run during peak and off peak hours. These systems may be employed anywhere from residential building to malls. The system is controlled by microcontroller. The system also monitors current and temperature. The microcontroller takes in digital inputs from field instruments and provides various control signals as the output depending upon the logic that has been programmed into it. The generators are operated in alternate fashion. Additionally a temperature sensor is provided that helps the transformer to shut down when it exceeds the temperature limit and there by protects the transformer.

Abstract

The present study focuses on the improvement of production of Poly Hydroxy Butyrate (PHB) using Bacillus megaterium MTCC 8075. The culture media and conditions were studied critically and was found that the maximum PHB production was attained in the presence of glucose as carbon source at 6% concentration with a yield of 55.0 mg/g cell weight and peptone as nitrogen source with a yield of 17.2mg/g cell weight. The optimum pH was found to be 7(22.8mg/g) and it was also investigated that PHB production was maximum corresponding to a temperature of 35°C (35.46mg/g) and at an incubation time of 72 hours (52.2mg/g). PHB was qualitatively analysed using Sudan Black staining method, extracted using sodium hypochlorite, and quantified using crotonic acid assay in UV spectrophotometer at a wavelength of 235nm. PHB production was carried out in various selected effluents like corn stalk waste and petroleum refinery effluent and corn corb yielded the maximum PHB production of 3.1mg/L. The produced PHB was confirmed using Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) analysis and NMR spectroscopic studies. PHB production was further improved using two-stage batch culture studies in which PHB production was compared in various nutrient limited conditions of nitrogen and phosphorous. The thermal properties of PHB was studied using Differential Scanning Calorimetry(DSC) and Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA).
